where's the ice?

they said we'd get a lot of ice last night... but so far, it's just been a little cold rain.

but the weather service claims up to 3/4 inch of ice accummulation tonight, so we'll see. people are freaking out around here, I must say. Everyone's so panicked about the thus far non-existent ice. Mp didn't even come in to work today, and... nothing. NO ICE.

there's been a serious lack of anything interesting going on today. I'm bored as anything... at least there's only an hour or so until I leave. AND there are puppies on TV again tonight... hopefully Sr will get to watch for at least a little while (poor kid is super busy).

no knitting news... because I am LAME. I finished one of the PS mittens, but it doesn't fit right (gaah!). I don't know, I'm just not inspired. That's the way of things, though, at least when it comes to me and crafts. I get all into it for about half a day and then... nothing. I really, really want to finish my checkered scarf and the sweater I've been working on for a year, but I am just so lacking in energy...

Anyway. Tomorrow is Valentine's Day. Huzzah? I could really not care less... at all. Although I must admit, Something Someone Said has me a tinytiny bit... on edge? anxious? because while it probably meant nothing, there's always that... chance, I guess, that something nice will happen. And I'm trying really hard not to get my hopes up because I'm sure it meant nothing at all, so... yeah. I don't usually get like this but more and more... it's probably just preemptive crazy sadness that this Someone will be gone so soon...

still kind of sick

...with some lame, half-assed cold. I stayed home from work yesterday, which was nice, as I generally hate work.

so with my time off I started my Project Spectrum project... I attempt to start a pair of gauntlets, which used a stitch that wouldn't have been so hard accept that the needles kept catching and slipping so I was dropping stiches all the time... I ended up ripping out twice so gave up on the gauntlets and decided to just do a pair of mittens, which would be simpler knitting (better for doing while sick, I suppose).

Last night for WEDS (Wednesday Evening Dinner Series) we went to a Thai restaurant... I got a vegetarian red curry dish, which was good, but a little too coconutty for my tastes.

I'm tired. really, really tired.

crazy?!

as I've said, I work in a library. I'm the youngest person in my department by far, so it gets a little... weird for me sometimes. But I've come up with a new way to entertain myself: cartoons! I will draw a cartoon of the funniest/weirdest/stoopidest thing that happens on any given day. (...and something tells me they will center around two people who sit near me, Gg and Rd.) I don't know that they'll ever make it to the blog (I don't have a scanner) but it'll keep me amused, and is probably less horrible than El's plan to keep me sane.

anyways. no knitting updates (I killed knitting on friday with Quite a Few ounces of bourbon and just didn't have the energy/desire to knit the rest of the weekend). The curry was good but not great, and there's tons of leftovers, so I'll be eating curry for a while.

I also feel like I'm getting sick. Good times all around.

feelin' fine.

My stomach is at it again. The doctors were all, well, if you're feeling better, you should stop taking the meds. So I did. And evidently that was a bad idea.

anyway.
I've been feeling really really bleh and out of it all day but I'm trying to hold out as long as possible, because, well, I don't have endless supplies of leave time. It would be less bad if I weren't so bored. And if I hadn't accidently deleted all of my statistics for january yesterday... oops... but I did go to Local Bagel Place (not its real name?) for lunch for the umpteenth (okay, third) time this week. They had vegan chili on the menu which I felt obliged to purchase. It was not amazing, but not unacceptable.

ever the stubborn one about my health, though, my plan is to pretty much just ignore my stomach and hope it settles down. if things aren't better in a few weeks I'll go whine to my doctor again. and they'll tell me that they have no idea why I should be feeling this way again. it'll be good.

I'm really not looking forward to this weekend and I'm not quite sure why. there's hockey and parties and it should be fun, but... I don't know. I think Sr is planning a super bowl watching thing and I'm not looking forward to having people at the house. So I think I might turn it into a weekend of domesticity... the house needs to be cleaned like no one's business (the kitchen especially), and I'll probably cook (this, at least... gotta use that crockpot occasionally, right?) and knit. Hopefully I will finish the scarf (double knitting = slow. freaking. going.) and get started on my Project Spectrum gauntlets.

whiney post much? anyway, I think I'll go home around 3... that's not too too long from now. there's a few things to keep me busy between now and then. Hopefully Jw and Sm won't be home, because I could really use some time to myself.

checkers everywhere!

Last night I started my new scarf, the double knit green/cream checker pattern thing... it's looking nice enough, although I am beginning to hate the yarn with a passion. This stuff keeps splitting and sticking and generally being stoopid. but, whatever, it won't be unmanageable I don't think. I've already got a good five inches or so, and hopefully it'll snow this afternoon/tonight and I'll get to chill out in front o' the fire with the boys, some beer, and my knitting.

Today is also the first day of Project Spectrum, about which I am quite excited. I can't decide what to do though... I think what I'd like to do is make something for each of the colors (blue, white, grey). So I guess what I'll do first is the blue, since I already have the yarn. I think I'm pretty settled on the twisted-stitch gauntlets from the book Not Just Socks, which is in general a pretty lame book but it has some basic patterns to work with.

No pictures now, as I'm at work. I don't have much to do though, so I think I'm going to declare that it is break time and knit a little bit. Perhaps someone will bring me something to work on.

Tonight I think I will make pancakes for dinner. delicious!

stash!

as mentioned earlier, I went through my stash. which is kind of small, I'll admit, but I don't really have the money to spend on yarn I'm not using. yet.

first, though, here's the puzzle I'm working on:

remind me never to buy a puzzle with so few colors... it has taken me many many days to just get this far.

anyhow, on to the stash.

that's the box it's all in, with WIP and other things piled on top.

first up, three balls of crochet thread in shades of green, originally purchased for sock making (another adventure in ginormity, that one). I don't know if they'll ever get used.

next, three small balls of cotton yarn, bought for no reason other than that it was cheap. I used some to make kerchief type things. it's just hanging out now.

the wool. ah, the wool. very tiny amounts of dark green, black, and blue; about half a skein of purple; a ball of oatmeal-colored fleece; a skein of light brown; half a skein of "mint chocolate chip" colored wool, I forget what brand but I made an amazing looking hat out of this last year. The fleece I bought to make a scarf, but I bought one ball too many. The light brown is for a sweater-in-progress. The blue and purple went to a felted bag, which I adore, but the strap needs to be replaced. the black and green went to the best thing I've ever knitted: a double knit scarf that said "crazy hobo." It was a graduation gift for a good friend; he recently admitted to me that he'd lost it. lame!

the variety page. purple homespun, I think; white baby soft yarn; blue and purple of some variety, I don't recall; a blue and brown oddly textured thing; and some multi-colored ribbon, given to me by a good friend. I don't know that I'll ever find a use for it.

here's the sock yarn, and huge to-be-frogged sock, that I'm going to use for Project Spectrum.

here's the green and cream yarn I'm going to make a scarf with. I'm fairly certain it's wool-ease, so mostly (all?) acrylic, but I have it and need a new scarf pretty desperately.

other things... needles EVERYWHERE! plus my favorite accessory, that fabric measuring tape. it's one of the best things I own. comes in handy all-the-time.

last, but not least, the sweater-in-progress. I'm fairly certain the pattern's from knitty.com, but I haven't worked on it in a long long while. I started it over a year ago, I think. I have the back done, and one and a half sleeves. I should really just sit down one day and finish it, but I just don't know that that's going to happen any time soon.
here's another angle:

project spectrum

I'm joining Project Spectrum on something of a whim. The idea is to focus through craft on a color (or set of colors) for a certain period of time (in this case, two months per set). This works out well, since I had decided to do some color-themed photography to go along with this blog (in hopes of gaining some actual photography skills at some point...).

The color themes are:

February / March
Blue, White, Gray

April / May
Green, Yellow, Pink

June / July
Red, Black, Metallics

August / September
Brown, Orange, Purple

This, I think, will work out well for me. I have some sock yarn in shades of blue and white that I think will FINALLY get knitted into something. Not that I didn't try previously, but I ended up with an enormous sock that needed to be frogged. So we'll see, I might decide to make fingerless gloves instead, which I think would be more useful.

I swear I have a job, and that I'm at that job right now, and that eventually I'll actually do work.
